Gau Gram Yojana

The Gau Gram Yojana is an initiative aimed at providing one indigenous, non-milking cow to each farmer's family in rural areas of Lord Krishna's country. The programme is intended to make these families self-sufficient through the use of cow-dung and cow-urine based products.

In the land of Lord Krishna, even a single drop of blood shed from the sacred cow would cause great anguish to Mother India. It is with this resolute determination that the Gau Gram Yojana has been launched.

The programme encompasses not only the protection and welfare of cows, but also the promotion of a culture of reverence towards them, in urban and rural society alike. The first phase of the scheme seeks to bring 8,000 cows to 8,000 farming families.

Why

Small farming families have few ways to become self-reliant, and the indigenous cow — once the centre of the village economy — is disappearing.

How it works

One indigenous non-milking cow per farming family, with training in cow-dung and cow-urine based products; cow protection and a culture of reverence together.

Who it is for: Farming families in rural areas

Where: Rural areas across India
